Our History

Born in a middle class peasant family Mehr Mohammad Ibrahim, lost his father at the age of 8, had to work to support himself. At a very tender age while struggling to survive, he observed human suffering due to poverty, illiteracy and disease, which made him a selfless human being with a mission to help the non-affording. At the age of 20 he was successful businessman.

Violence erupted in 1947 during the partition of India. Mr. Ibrahim lost his fortune and migrated to the new home land Pakistan. He had to start from scratch and once again had to work very hard which affected his health and at relatively young age; he went into renal failure. In the early hours of October 11, 1967, while he was critically ill and could see no hope of survival, he broke the secret of raising a doctor in a business family to his eldest son (Dr. Daud) who was in the final year of his medical education. He took a promise from him to establish a project for the welfare of people.

Dr. Daud A. Arain kept the secret to himself and started struggling to fulfil the promise. He worked abroad for 30 long years to save enough funds for the dream to come true.He planned for a sustainable welfare project; to establish a hospital in Phase-I, free clinics in the urban areas for the non-affording poor patients in Phase-II and basic health facilities in the rural areas in Phase-III.

To construct the hospital, land was procured in April, 1992. It took two years to plan and four years to construct, 31 years for a dream to come true; it was inaugurated on 11th October, 1998. Maryam Memorial Hospital received its first surgical in-patient, three weeks after inauguration.

The first Maryam Memorial Hospital Free Dispensary started working on 5th of August, 2000 in Siham, Rawalpindi, followed by inauguration of 2nd such dispensary in Dhoke Hassu, on 4th January, 2001 for the non-affording poor patients.

Today Dr. Daud A. Arain is the Chairman of the Board of Directors and still actively pursues the ideal of providing exceptional services to his community and countrymen by playing his role as a clinician and guide to the executive team of the organization.

As the journey progresses land was purchased in Bahria Town Rawalpindi to construct the first addition to the community based size hospital. Thus after spending time on planning construction was completed and Maryam Memorial Hospital Pvt Ltd. established its second branch in the twin cities of Rawalpindi & Islamabad. This hospital is due to start its functions within 2015. Thus the journey continues!
